FAQs

  • When should one see a dentist or dental specialist?

Generally speaking, you should visit a dentist in Singapore if it is for a routine check-up, cleanings and preventive care. You may also visit a general dentist if it is for diagnostics and other standard procedures like fillings and basic tooth extractions.

However, you should visit a dental specialist in Singapore if you require more advanced and specialized care; such as misaligned teeth and jaw problems, complex tooth extractions, severe gum disease, teeth restorations, full smile makeovers, and so on.

PKWY Dental is pleased to offer general dentistry and various specialized fields of dentistry all under one roof.

  • What are the various dental specialties about?

Our Singapore dental clinic offers a wide range of specialist dental treatment from the following fields:

    • Orthodontics: A branch of dentistry that specializes in the correction of misaligned teeth and jaw irregularities using braces, aligners, and other orthodontic appliances.
    • Maxillofacial Surgery: A branch of dentistry that specializes in complex dental surgery related to the face, jaw, and mouth; such as jaw surgery and facial trauma repair.
    • Endodontics: A branch of dentistry that specializes in treating diseases and injuries of the dental pulp within the tooth.
    • Prosthodontics: A branch of dentistry that specializes in teeth restoration and replacement, such as dental crowns, bridges and dental implants.
    • Periodontics: A branch of dentistry that specializes in the treatment of gum diseases and ensuring that the gums and other supporting structures of the teeth are healthy.
  • How often should one go to a dentist?

For most people with no major dental issue, it is generally recommended to visit a dentist for routine check-ups and cleanings at least once a year.

If you have a history of dental problems, or ongoing orthodontic treatment and dental work, your Singapore dentist will usually recommend more frequent visits.

  • What qualifications do your dentists and dental specialists have?

Our team of dentists and dental specialists are all accredited by the Ministry of Health in Singapore; with each of them having had years of experience and a steadfast commitment to providing high-quality, personalized and compassionate dental treatment and surgery to every patient they see.

  • Is dental treatment covered by Medisave or private insurance?

While not all dental treatments can be covered by Medisave and private insurance in Singapore, some can be. This usually includes dental surgery for dental implants, wisdom tooth surgery, bone grafting, gum surgery and so on. Generally speaking, the treatment must be surgical in nature and necessitated by medical reasons and not cosmetic ones. For more specific advice on your case, please enquire with our clinic.

  • Can I walk in for a dental appointment?

To avoid long waiting times or even a potentially wasted trip, you are advised to give us a call at 6836 9808 to make an appointment beforehand, as the clinic may already have a full schedule for the day, or the specialist you are looking for may not be in on that day.
